The Belmont District
Welcome to the Belmont District
The Belmont Area Business district extends between SE Yamhill and SE Stark from SE 12th Avenue to SE 60th Avenue. There are over 300 businesses on three major streets, Belmont, Morrison and Stark with hundreds of residences in between. The Belmont District is a great place to live!
Belmont is a Historic Area
SE Belmont featured the first trolley line on Portland's east side in 1888 and the first bike corrals in 2008. Belmont, Morrison and Stark Streets developed with characteristic nodes of street level businesses at the trolley stops with housing above and between stops. These historic 'streetcar' structures along a narrow transit corridor contribute to the Belmont Area's special charm yet today!
Vintage Portland
Vintage Portland is a website with pictures from Portland's past. Included among the images are maps from the late 1800's and images of SE Portland. The Historic Firehouse on Belmont Street is shown in a picture taken in 1913. The intersection at SE Belmont and Cesar Chavez Blvd./39th is shown in 1915. A 1912 view of Reservoir one in Mt. Tabor Park is shown. Images are very clear and detailed. Visit Vintage Portland.
